Job Description Summary

The Department of Biology at Barnard College of Columbia University seeks an individual to join a team of introductory biology lab instructors for Fall 2017. The instructor will be responsible for teaching Introduction to Organismal and Evolutionary Biology Laboratory (3-hr lab).

Position Summary Information

Essential Duties Summary

The lab’s curriculum is set by the Department’s Biology Lab Director. Introductory biology lab instructors are responsible for teaching, grading lab reports and in-class work, responding to student questions and emails, and working with a team of instructors and staff. Additional responsibilities include attending a mandatory 1-hr pre-lab lecture and 1-hr preparatory session, which all lab instructors attend on Friday afternoons. Instructors are typically assigned an undergraduate student teaching assistant for the entire semester.

Required Qualification Summary

Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field.

Preferred Qualification Summary

Master’s degree in Biology or related field, experience teaching college level biology labs, strong background in Organismal and Evolutionary Biology, strong writing skills, and familiar with SmartBoard technology.
