Reporting to the Associate Director of Pre-Collegiate Programs, the STEP Math Instructor will work hard to prepare students in mathematic concepts using the New York State Learning Standards and Core Curriculum. Through the rigorous “Saturday Academy,” instructors will ensure that students are fully prepared for the current academic year and upcoming Regents exam.

Position Summary Information

Essential Duties Summary

• Teach mathematics to middle/high school students (candidates will be selected for the following mathematics disciplines: Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II/Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus)
• Work closely with STEP staff to design “Saturday Academy” curriculum
• Grade and return students’ work in timely fashion
• Attend instructor meetings
• Create performance tasks at the end of the program

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent communication skills
• Use of New York State Learning Standards and Core Curriculum in lesson planning
• Able to provide academic enrichment and learning support

Required Qualification Summary

• Bachelor’s degree in education or mathematics
• Must be able to work 2 hour blocks on Saturdays from October 7 – November 18 & January 27 – April 28
• Experience preparing lesson plans and curriculum
• Enjoys working with middle/high school students

Preferred Qualification Summary

• Master’s degree in mathematics education with teacher certification preferred
