Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for Academic Enrichment and Community Initiatives within the Office of the Dean of Studies, the Director is responsible for oversight and management of the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP Scholars), the Barnard Opportunity Program (BOP), the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP), and the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP).

Position Summary Information

Essential Duties Summary

1. Manage daily operations and budgets of the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program, Barnard Opportunity Program, Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program and the Science and Technology Entry Program, including management of summer bridge program and weekend programs.
2. Under the direction of the Dean, hire and supervise staff of six employed in the programs, including the associate directors, counselors, and administrative assistants.
3. Hire and supervise summer faculty members, and student peer tutors/teaching assistants.
4. Develop and manage the programs’ budgets, with budget accountability to Barnard College, New York State Education Department and private funding sources.
5. Maintain and follow proposals for funding from New York State Education Department and private funding sources. In consultation with the Associate Dean for Enrichment and Community Initiatives, maintain data, reports, and analysis as needed for the development and updating of the needs and requirements of the programs.
6. Work with the Dean for Enrichment and Community Initiatives on the annual recruitment of applicants to the programs in coordination with the Office of Admissions; evaluate student credentials and their fulfillment of program criteria with Admissions, Financial Aid, and Dean of Enrichment.
7. Represent the College at outside conferences, community meetings, and inter-institutional programs and activities that are relevant to the objectives and operations of the programs.
8. Serve as a liaison between the College and the New York State Department of Education.
9. Stay abreast of literature and networks with national groups and individuals; stay abreast of New York State and other applicable regulations, policies, and procedures as they apply to HEOP, CSTEP, and STEP.
10. Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and financial reporting
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to effectively manage staff.
• Special sensitivity to concerns of students of diverse and of low-income backgrounds.
• Understanding of the goals and objectives of opportunity programs in the private sector.
• Familiarity with New York State and federal financial aid general guidelines

Required Qualification Summary

• Master’s degree.
• Minimum 7 years related experience with significant experience in academic support services in higher education.

• Experience in managing or supervising staff.
• Must be available for weekends, evenings, and some overnight travel; willingness to work during the summer
• Comfortable familiarity with or openness to new technologies and software platforms
